FANTASTIC NEWS TO SHARE: PLANT AWARD
I received a letter today from the Maryland DNR Forest Service, in recognition of our four accomplishments:
1. Establishing a G&B committee that manages our projects;
2. Adopt-A-Road (Tammy Crumley is contact person);
3. Adopt-A-Pond (Cindy Gebhard is contact person); and
4. Twice a year tree planting project with financial assistance through a grant from Chesapeake Bay Trust; www.ChesapeakeBayTrust.org (Rebecca is contact).
The letter from DNR said the following:
"Congratulations! The Maryland Urban and Community Forest Committee of the Maryland Association of Forest Conservancy District Boards and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service are pleased to announce that your Maryland Community PLANT Award application for 2003 has been approved for the BRONZE award..." "We appreciate your enthusiasm and hard work, and hope that your community's efforts to care for its forests and tree resources continue to grow.
Sincerely, Tod Ericson, Central Region
Urban and Community Forestry Coordinator
Maryland DNR Forest Service"
The Bronze award is "an attractive framed certificate indicating the award level and community name." In addition, our community will receive recognition with being listed as a 2003 award winner on the DNR web site www.dnr.state.md.us/forests/programs/plantinfo.html.
With the continuation of our G&B projects we are optimistic that next year we will qualify for a Silver, Gold or Green award which includes an etched wooden plaque with nameplates leaving space for addition name plates year after year. "The Green Award, although simple in form, represents the highest PLANT honor"
Maryland PLANT Community-Awards Program
Purpose: To officially recognize communities across Maryland that are actively involved in tree planting and care.
Scope: Any Maryland community, large or small, incorporated or unincorporated, may apply for this annual award.
Description: Awards are given based on the number of accomplishments completed by the applicant during the award year. A minimum of 4 accomplishments is required to be recognized. Acceptable accomplishments for PLANT awards range from holding a one-time tree event or ceremony (Arbor Day) to having built comprehensive ongoing planting and maintenance programs. PLANT is sponsored by the Maryland DNR Forest Service and the Maryland Community Forestry Council. Thanks again for being one of those special people who volunteer their time and energy to better our community.

MORSE LANE BEAUTIFICATIONThe Morse Lane Tree Planting (October 2003) went very well. We started around 8AM Saturday and finished planting all 50 native trees and shrubs by 12:30 the same day. THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED. Also thanks to several representatives from DNR and DEPRM for their guidance, and
A BIG THANK YOU TO THE CHESAPEAKE BAY TRUST, FOR PROVIDING THE FUNDS TO PAY FOR THIS PROJECT.

WE NEED MORE MULCH FROM THE LANDFILL:
We still need help with mulch for that area. We are allowed to mulch over the unsightly rocks, up to the asphalt.
Also, If you would like to participate in any G&B project, feel free to contact us any one of us: Crum2@webtv.net
